Most cigar smokers know the brand on the band.
Very few know the factory behind the cigar.
That is a problem, because in premium cigars, the brand is not always the factory. Some brands own their own factories. Some brands work with contract factories. Some use different factories for different lines. Some legacy brands have cigars made in Nicaragua, the Dominican Republic, Honduras, or other countries depending on the release.
So if you really want to understand what you are smoking, the better question is not only:
What brand is this?
The better question is:
Who actually made this cigar?
This guide is a factory first look at the premium cigar industry. It shows which factories make outside brands, organized by country, with house brands removed whenever possible.
Factory relationships can change by line, year, market, and limited release. This guide is meant to help consumers understand cigar production more clearly, not to act as a permanent ownership chart.
A cigar factory is more than a building.
The factory affects the cigar’s construction, draw, consistency, fermentation standards, quality control, aging practices, rolling culture, tobacco relationships, and overall identity.
Two cigars from the same factory are not automatically the same quality. A factory can make a value cigar, a boutique cigar, and a luxury cigar. They may use different tobacco, different sorting standards, different aging, different packaging, and different levels of quality control.
But knowing the factory gives you context.
It helps you understand why certain cigars feel familiar, why some brands have similar construction, and why the same brand name can taste completely different depending on where a specific line was made.
Nicaragua is one of the most important countries in the modern premium cigar world. Many of today’s most popular boutique and legacy brand cigars are made in Nicaraguan factories.

This list is not meant to make you memorize factories.
It is meant to change the way you think.
The next time you pick up a cigar, do not stop at the band.
Ask:
Who made this cigar?
Was it made by the brand itself or by a contract factory?
Does this factory make other cigars I already enjoy?
Is this a house brand, a collaboration, or an outside brand?
Does the factory have strong tobacco access?
Is this cigar priced because of real tobacco and craftsmanship, or because of packaging and hype?
That is how you become a smarter cigar consumer.
The cigar industry has trained consumers to think in brands.
But insiders think in factories.
The brand gets your attention.
The factory earns your trust.
Once you understand who actually makes your favorite cigars, the entire cigar world opens up.
Below is the current factory map. you can download it at the top of this post. This is still a work in progress so please email us if you see any mistakes.
